Union Square Greenmarket is not a daily farmers market. GrowNYC publishes four regular trading days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 08:00 to 18:00, year-round. Choosing the right day is the first step; checking the producer list is the next if you want to buy from a particular farm.

The regular weekly schedule
| Day | Published market session |
|---|---|
| Monday | 08:00–18:00 |
| Wednesday | 08:00–18:00 |
| Friday | 08:00–18:00 |
| Saturday | 08:00–18:00 |
Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday are not included in that regular Greenmarket schedule. The park and other nearby activities should not be confused with the farmers-market session. Consult GrowNYC’s current location page for changes and alerts before a special journey.
Use the market’s location, not just the park name
GrowNYC places the market along 17th Street between Broadway and Park Avenue South, and along Union Square West between 17th and 15th Streets. Compare that description with your route and the directory market record. A map pin provides a useful reference point; it is not a promise that every stall will be arranged around that exact spot.
Choose a meeting point before you arrive if you are visiting with someone else. A large public space can be easy to name and harder to navigate together. Check the current transport route from your own starting location and any access requirements separately. We do not infer a step-free journey from a short straight-line distance.
Check the producer list for your chosen day
GrowNYC publishes separate producer lists and market maps for its trading days. Use those if a particular farm is the reason for your visit. A venue being scheduled does not prove that every producer attends every session, and the list should be read as attendance information rather than a guarantee that a specific product will remain in stock when you arrive.
Write down an alternative purchase before you go. If the ingredient you hoped for is unavailable, you can ask a grower what is in season and choose something that fits your plans. Avoid building the whole trip around an item without checking with the seller. This is especially useful when you have limited cooking facilities or a long journey after shopping.
Make the visit fit your day
For groceries, plan how much you can carry and where you will take it afterwards. Bring a reusable bag and ask about storage before buying perishable food. Compare quantity and unit price rather than assuming a larger package is the better choice for a short stay. Ask the stall about payment methods and ingredients when those affect your decision.
Leave time to look before buying, while remembering that a published closing time is not a promise of full stock at the last minute. If you want to photograph a stall, ask first and keep space for people who are shopping. The aim is a practical visit that suits your needs, not a checklist of supposed must-buy products or unverified bargain prices.
What to do if your trip falls on a different day
Open the New York market guide and compare nearby records, then check the operator of any alternative you choose. Use the trading-day filter to narrow records with readable weekly schedules, but return to the unfiltered view if you need to see places whose hours are missing. The filter cannot turn an unknown timetable into a confirmed closure.
A farmers market and a flea market serve different shopping purposes. If you are looking for used furniture or vintage clothing, start with the flea-market guide rather than assuming a produce market is an equivalent alternative. If you are comparing the broader terms bazaar and market, our bazaar meaning and market comparison explains the language.
Is Union Square Greenmarket open on Sunday?
Sunday is not one of the four regular days published by GrowNYC. Check for a separately announced event before interpreting activity in the park as a Greenmarket session.
Does year-round mean every day?
No. It describes the season of operation; the weekly trading days still apply.
