Strasbourg Christmas Markets 2026: dates & visiting guide

Strasbourg’s Christmas programme is spread across market squares rather than a single stall row. Its official 2026 FAQ gives a clear final date: the market chalets finish on Christmas Eve. Plan the route and date together so that an illuminated city visit is not mistaken for a promise of stalls after Christmas.

The official FAQ announces 27 November–24 December 2026. It gives regular hours of 11:00–21:00, an opening-day start at 14:00 and a final-day close at 18:00. It explicitly says the chalets do not remain open on 25 December or through New Year. Check the current official map for the individual market squares.

These dates and hours concern this edition. They are not a recurring year-round schedule or a real-time opening guarantee.

Choose a starting square and a manageable loop

Use the current event map to choose a starting point and a short route between the places you want to see. The directory’s existing Strasbourg record is a city-centre reference, not a complete map of all entrances and stall areas. Leave time to browse instead of trying to cover every square simply because they appear close on a small screen.

Check both edge days of the season

The first day has a later start than a regular market day; the last day closes earlier. These exceptions matter if you are arriving by train or fitting the market into a short city break. Confirm your own transport and accommodation arrangements separately. A Christmas decoration or city light display continuing later should not be read as evidence that the chalets are still trading.

Think about access before carrying luggage through the centre

The official FAQ says there are no temporary luggage lockers inside the market perimeter. Check storage options before taking large bags into the centre. Consult the official practical information before choosing how to reach the market areas. Check current access arrangements and where you can leave any large luggage. A route that is short in a map app may still be awkward with bags, a pushchair or an access requirement. Identify the facilities your group needs from the current visitor map rather than relying on an old photograph.

Make a thoughtful shopping stop

For decorations, ask how an item is made and whether it can be packed for travel. For food, ask about ingredients and storage if needed. Compare sizes and prices at the stall and decide what is practical to carry. The photo on this page shows a light-selling stall at Place Broglie in an earlier season, not the products or prices of a current exhibitor.

After Christmas, choose by activity rather than atmosphere

If your travel dates begin after 24 December, use the season comparison to find an event whose announced dates fit your trip. Vienna Rathausplatz and Sibiu have different final dates. Check the particular holiday session before committing to a market-focused journey.
